Position: Livelihood Restoration Specialist and Conservation Farming Trainer

Location: Divundu, Kavango East Region, Namibia

Duration: Two-year project-based assignment

Employer/Contracting arrangement: The position will be undertaken through Social Essence under its contract with Blue Berries Namibia (Pty) Ltd trading as Namibia Berries.

The Assignment

Social Essence seeks to appoint an experienced Livelihood Restoration Specialist and Conservation Farming Trainer to support the agricultural training and livelihood restoration programme linked to the Namibia Berries project in Divundu. The role will focus on strengthening household food production, improving soil management, supporting sustainable local food systems, and building local capacity among participating households and community facilitators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the practical training component of the livelihood restoration programme for participating households.
  • Deliver conservation farming training sessions focused on household food production, soil management, and sustainable local food systems.
  • Conduct field demonstrations of conservation farming techniques, including land preparation and planting methods.
  • Provide regular technical follow-up and mentorship during key stages of each agricultural cycle.
  • Support participating households to adopt improved conservation farming practices consistently and effectively.
  • Transfer knowledge to local participants and community facilitators to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Train and mentor local facilitators to continue supporting beneficiary farmers independently after the assignment period.
  • Contribute to continuity, accountability, and effective implementation of the programme over multiple agricultural cycles.

Required Experience

Minimum of 10 years’ working experience in livelihood restoration and conservation farming education, including practical field-based training, community facilitation, agricultural demonstrations, and mentorship of rural households or community facilitators.

Required Qualifications and Educational Background

  • Diploma in Education or equivalent educational qualification.
  • Certificate in Environmental Education or equivalent training.
  • Formal training in Conservation Agriculture or Conservation Farming.
  • Demonstrated educational and training experience in livelihood restoration, conservation farming, environmental education, or community-based agricultural capacity-building.

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Strong practical knowledge of conservation farming methods.
  • Abilityto train, mentor, and support rural households and local facilitators.
  • Experience implementing livelihood restoration activities in rural or agricultural communities.
  • Knowledge of soil management, household food production, and sustainable local food systems.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and field-based problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work over multiple agricultural cycles and provide consistent technical follow-up.
