Location: Divundu, Kavango East, Namibia
Employment Type : Full-Time
About the Role
We are seeking a practical, hands-on ESG Officer to help implement our Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) on a large-scale agricultural project in northern Namibia. This is a field-based role, focused on turning ESG and resettlement plans into real, visible action on the ground – including direct support for resettlement and livelihood restoration activities, in line with IFC Performance Standards.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring that planned ESG actions are carried out – from ensuring site conditions meet standards, to engaging with relocated households, tracking support measures, and helping affected people re-stablish their livelihoods.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement daily environmental and social actions outlined in the ESMS.
- Support practical execution of resettlement activities, including coordination with relocated households, site readiness, and tracking household needs.
- Assist with implementing livelihood restoration plans, including training coordination, reestablishment monitoring, and follow-up visits.
- Conduct regular on-site checks to ensure ESG measures are in place (e.g. access to water/sanitation, litter control, signage, waste bins).
- Keep up-to-date stakeholder engagement records and photographic evidence.
- Help facilitate basic ESG and conduct-related awareness sessions for workers and contractors.
- Coordinate with the ESG Director and Community Liaison Officer to monitor commitments and prepare for lender site visits.
- Build strong, respectful working relationships with local stakeholders.
Who We're Looking For
- Namibian citizen, ideally based in or willing to relocate to Kavango East.
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Social Development, Agriculture, Sustainability or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in ESG, resettlement, community development, or environmental implementation.
- Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards, especially Performance Standard 5 (Land Acquisition & Involuntary Resettlement).
- Hands-on, field-ready mindset – comfortable working in rural areas and engaging directly with households and workers.
- Good recordkeeping, reporting, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and smartphone-based tools (e.g. photos, checklists).
- Fluent in English and ideally one local language.
- Valid driver’s license and availability to be based full-time in Divundu.
